Million Dollar View

Sunday, December 30, 2012

I gotta say, my picture-taking skills are getting pretty darn good. I say "picture-taking" rather than "photography" so as not to insult any photographers out there who make this skill their profession. Also, shout out to Daisy for taking such awesome pictures. Couldn't have done it without you.

More importantly, these photos were taken from the window in my dorm room. I absolutely love where I live, and I realize that people in this city pay thousands of dollars to have a view like this.
I'm know I'm one of the lucky ones.

Welcome to Our Humble Abode

We didn't get past here. He was disappointed with himself.

'Twas a far way down...
I'm just going to post this and act like I haven't completely disappeared for the past month or so. If there's any excuse in the world for my absence, it's that I have officially moved to NYC for the summer and it's been so hectic/insane/stressful/amazing that I needed a month or so to get my life in order (not really, but I needed to come up with something). Well to start off, these pics are from the back fire escape of our giant apartment -- not only for NYC standards, but for general apartment standards, this place is pretty big. Brian had some trouble getting to the roof, which we have access to from our fire escape. Wanna see if he made it? And more amazing pics of our new life in NYC? Hit the jump for more!

Humans of New York

Monday, April 2, 2012

Thanks to my roommate, I've found yet another way to procrastinate for hours on end. This Facebook page, Humans of New York  has a bunch of pictures of random and interesting people around New York City, and I have to say that none of this surprises me. It just makes me love this place 100x more. Here are some of my favorite pictures that I've seen lately. Also, the captions can really make the picture, so I'll add those in too.

Paradoxically, the loudest personas often belong to the most soft-spoken people.

These gas prices are out of control.
When I was taking this photo, someone walked behind me and said: "God that is so Brooklyn."
"What are you reading?"
"It's a philosophy book."
"Are you a philosophy student?"
"No."

"You wanna go to a protest?"

Where to Be in 2012

Music Hall of Williamsburg
According to the NY Times (it's totally a coincidence), NYC is the place to be in 2012, particularly for food and music. On January 8, a series of articles were written to prepare readers for the new year and what cool things to do all over the world. Varying from giving tips on where to see art to where to go to understand the world, these writers from the Times give us a glimpse of places they've been around the world that should be listed somewhere on our bucket list. For something a little more accessible, for some of us anyways, some music and restaurants are experienced best with a New York state of mind. As it turns out, I'll be at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on the 18th to see one of my favorite producers Madlib do a DJ set (look out for a post on that!), and that venue was one of the first ones featured in the long list of Brooklyn venues in article "Where to Hear Music in 2012" by Peter Edge. And New York Restaurant Week conveniently starts on Monday and I'm pretty sure I should put Kajitsu on my restaurant list..."Where to Eat in 2012" convinced me. Check out the parts of both articles after the jump. And hey, if you can travel the world like those authors...a) I'm jealous of your life and b) check out the full articles too.
